This will be the same as the rest except it will be split into 2 section, with each section having 10 questions. 5 points will be awarded for each correct answer, with a total of 20 questions (over 2 blog posts) and 100 points possible. Here are the first 10 questions - Good Luck!

You can email your answer to me at Klondikecafe@comcast.net or you can post them in the comments, where I will try my best to check them and erase them as fast as possible so others can still answer. :c)

2) How did Fred and George change Percy's prefect badge?

3) On what page did the train stop on the way to Hogwarts?

4) What did the Knight in the picture say to Harry after he fell face first into the grass and
Harry asked him if he was all right?

5) On what page does Neville explain to Professor Lupin what his grandmother looked like
when Professor Lupin was giving a Bogart Lesson?

6) On what page did Professor Lupin explain to Harry why he let him face the Bogart? And
what form did Professor Lupin expect Harry's Bogart to take?

7) On what page is this sentence? "Harry lay there, not saying a word. They had lost...for the
first time ever, he had lost a Quidditch match."

8) When Harry back to Hogwarts through the Honeydukes cellar and went to the common
room after dinner, what had Fred and George done in the common room?

9) What color was Harry's X-mas sweater and was there anything on the front of it?

10) What time and day did Harry meet Professor Lupin in the History of Magic classroom to
learn how to deal with Dementors?

Hello All!!

Well after much-to-do over on my end, I've slowly come back to my online friends and activities. It has been a wild ride over here and I've learned many lessons about running a swap all by myself. Not a mistake I will make the next time. :c)

For those of you wondering, yes the Swap It should still be going. You should be close to finishing up your socks in the next week and half, and thinking about sending them off so your Pal can get them in time.

I've had a few questions about adding extras besides your Pal's socks into your package. I did put some questions in the Questionnaire that would allow you add some treats but it is NOT a requirement. This Swap It was started a bit late in the game and I left out putting a money value or anything on it just for that reason. The only requirement I had was that you got your Pal's socks to them in time. However, IF you would like to send a few things extra that is up to you. We are all knitters, most of us realize that our children are out of school now and keeping us busy, and of course we were all trying to catch up on the movies and books along with all our knitting. If you just send your Pal socks, I'm sure they will be just as thrilled as if you included some tea or candy. We are totally in it for your socks, not your chocolate. *g*

The next trivia is coming up. Please count your points and let me know if you think I forgot anyone! I'm by far not perfect.

Good Luck! I can't wait to see every one's socks!

It is bright enough with stripes in it that I can't use a detailed pattern because it would get lost, yet its so special I don't want to make a plain old sock..ya know?? I'm thinking of doing Jaywalkers with it but I'm not sure. Here is a pic of the yarn:

Could anyone help with suggestions?? I'm desperate I only have one pair of socks on the needles!! LOL Thanks!!

A Bit Off Topic

A bit off topic here, I just wanted to let everyone know that my 7 yo son broke his leg the other day at school. He got a buckle fracture in his thigh bone and is now in a full leg splint from toe to upper thigh and is awaiting to see the bone doctor on Monday to see if he can have his cast put on. I didn't sleep much after it first happened as he was in a lot of pain and can't walk at all. Today is my first full functioning day, I slept last night..hard... LOL

Harry Potter Book 7 Sock It or Swap It News:

Swap partners will be going out soon, hopefully today!! It's starting to get late and I'm sure you are all anxious to get started!

Another trivia is coming up to! news on this: If you answer on the blog I will probably delete your answers, this is only so others have the chance to answer it to. I admit I didn't think about this, so you can answer on the blog or email me privately, the choice is yours.. Just please do not be offended if I delete your answers! I'm not being mean or anything!! :c)

House points from the trivia are not going to be done by "house" as all the houses are not represented here, so its by individual. Of course at the end your personal points do count towards your "house", but without all the houses it seems fair to make them individual. If anyone has a better idea or just a different one, please email me!! All comments, or anything are always welcome! This is YOUR group to have fun with also!

If you would like to put up a trivia and award points, feel free! As I said, this is your group also! Just email me with the results when your done so I make sure I get all the points to the right people.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Some Links

I found some links to some other Harry Potter patterns and thought I'd share:

The Leaky Cauldron

Freshisle Fibers -- link list

and sock patterns you can buy (around US $5.00, the online converter said it would be about 3.69257 Euro for Germany?) from KnittingZone (this is a store I like to buy yarn from). Just look under patterns, then socks. I believe there were two that I saw in their, but maybe only one.

The Free pattern section which was moved to the very bottom of the blog has had some patterns added to it. And their are more graphics at the bottom of the page also.

More HP Stitch Markers

I orderd some GREAT stitch markers from sunneshine on etsy here (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5002492), they arrived last night and I LOVE them! Camera is on the fritz but I'll post a pic ASAP. She said she'll have some additional sets ready on Thursday, be sure to check her out.

Thanks Sunneshine!

HP Swap it - The questionnaire

Harry Potter Book 7 Swap It Questionnaire:1)

1)What are your favorite Harry Potter Book Hogwarts House color combinations?.......Oh I think I'm a Gryffindor kind of girl at heart. I really can't stand the combination of yellow and black on anything else than bumble bees.

2)Do you have a sock yarn that you can't wear? Or just hate?.......I'm not fussed so long as it doesn't itch.

3) Would you prefer nice "Harry Potter" socks, or can your sock Pal go all Funky on you? How weird is to weird for you?..............I don't mind funky. In fact my socks don't even need to match but no frilly bits. I'm not all that frilly really.

4) Who is your favorite teacher at Hogwarts?.... I like Minerva McGonagal.

5) Is there a color that you just can't wear, you know the one that makes you look sick, or you just can't stand? Explain the color? (Example ~ Light green, not med, or dark, but light..yuck!)

For my feet it doesn't really matter too much but I'm not a fan of yellow and black together as previously mentioned and also the combo of Green and white is definately off.

6) Are you a superwash sock person or a 100% Wool sock person?
I'm a superwash girl all the way. Just no 100% nylon. I have an aversion to socks that squeak on the needles as well as on my feet.

7) What do you think is the funniest scene in one of the books and what was it? ...................When Hermione punches Malfoy.

8) Will you be attending any Harry Potter parties or midnight releases like what Barnes and Nobles has put on in the past?.........Nope, I'll be at home, sitting behind the letterbox, waiting for Amazon to drop it through on the release date.

9) Was there a scene that just cranked your needles? A scene that just made you mad?........In the last one when Snape bumped off Dumbledore. Got well upset by that one.

10) Have you watched the movies and read the books? or just one and or the other, and if so which ones?.......Read all the books, watched one film and have stayed away from HP films since.

11) Have you or do you have any plans to knit anything else "themed" Harry Potter?.....I've already knitted an HP mini Gryffindor scarf as a book mark.

12) What is your favorite all time sock yarn, and your favorite sock pattern?
Oh difficult one as I like lots of yarn for different reasons. I do love Lorna's Laces though but a bit on the expensive side for a sock swap.

13) Do you knit your socks, toe up, cuff down, DPN's, Circ's or whatever you feel like?......I do whatever I feel like. I've just taught myself how to knit continental style so I'm now on a dpns kick again.

14) Are you a Chocolate, Soda, Tea, Coffee, or Hard Candy kind of person?
I like tea, chocolate, sweeties, coffee and beer. I don't drink much of what the US calls Soda but prefer water or Apfelschorles if forced to.

Any special treats you just can't resist? Haribo Fröschli and gummi bears

15) Anything else you would like to tell about yourself, about the books, or about your knitting, bring it on! :c)
Oh too much to tell in one sitting. Best read the blog. If you can call it a blog yet.

Groetjes
Jules

Sock It Questionnaire~ April

1) What are your favorite Harry Potter Book Hogwarts House colors?
Gryffindor ~ Scarlet and Gold
Hufflepuff ~ Yellow and Black
Ravenclaw ~ Blue and Bronze
Slytherin ~ Green and Silver

I think my favorite colors would be Ravenclaw and Gryffindor.

2) Are you going to knit your socks in your favorite house colors, the colors that from the house that you were "sorted" into by a website, or some mismatched (funky) Dobby socks or something else entirely and if so what??

HELP! I have NO idea what I want to do AT ALL!! sigh....

3) Do you have a favorite character and why?

I don't have a fav, sometimes I think I do but the books wouldn't be the books without all the characters...or at least that is what I keep telling myself..lol..

4) Who is your favorite teacher at Hogwarts?

Oh wow, I just forgot his name...I'm not sure he is my fav (read previous answer) but he's the werewolf one that taught Defense Against the Dark Arts... I mean, he taught HP to do a protronus (sp?) charm...Seriously, bring it on, I wanna learn one to, I'm positive I've had a few dementers in my life that just sucked the joy out of it... ;c) LOL

5) What was your favorite Harry Potter Book?

This is hard only because I need to go over the last two again, but for the longest time it was The prisoner of Az... I'll have to get back to you after re-reading the last two

6) Do you have a favorite scene from one of the books?

I liked the scene in the screeching shack when Harry found out he had a Godfather that was innocent and that there was someone out their that loved him and wanted him...

7) What do you think is the funniest scene in one of the books?

When the twins leave school..I'm not sure if that was the funniest, but I sure was hootin' and hollerin' for them to get on with there bad selves!! lol

8) How about a scene that made you cry?

OMGosh, for sure when Dumbledor died, I cried like a sissy girl (meant in a sweet way), however its not coming to me but there were a few other time I got "teary"

9) Was there a scene that just cranked your needles? A scene that just made you mad?

yea, ANY scene with the frog lady...you know the one that made Harry write all those lines that would dig into his skin...ohh she burned more than a set of needles, I think its a good thing I read that book before I was seriously knitting and didn't have wood or bamboo in my hand, they for sure would have snapped...I can feel my blood pressure rising even now thinking of her..lol

10) Have you watched the movies and read the books? or just one and or the other, and if so which ones?

Both, and we have the first 4 books on tape (we used the during the drive when we moved from Michigan back to my home state of Alaska, and than listened to them when we moved from Alaska to SC) and we have the 5th on disk which my fiance listened to on the drive to SC since he was not able to read the book before we moved.. Of course the books are better than the movies, but they didn't do to bad on the movies.

11) Have you or do you have any plans to knit anything else "themed" Harry Potter?

I wouldn't mind a scarf, but we'll see if I can get to it...I don't knit very fast..

12) Anything else you would like to tell about yourself, about the books, or about your knitting, bring it on! :c)

I'm a left handed knitter, as in I knit my stitches from my right needle onto my left. I don't function well at all if its anything to do with my right hand..lol.. I've only been knitting socks since Jan and I'm not a fast knitter. I feel a bit deprived as I haven't branched out like others yet using Circs for socks, I kind of like my DPN's but have recently been feeling the urge to learn cuff down on Circs so that IS in my future. I also decided to go back to college this past year and just finished my first year...now I just have 3 more and hopefully I will become an RN, if I survive school itself, and our own children being in school, and of course I'm hoping I will not be spending my last 2 years going to school with our oldest daughter...that seems a bit creepy..lol..

2) Do you have a sock yarn that you can't wear?? Or just hate??
Nope, I'm an equal opportunity sock yarn wearer!

3) Would you prefer nice "Harry Potter" socks, or can your sock Pal go all Funky on you? How weird is to weird for you??

Minerva McGonegal, she doesn't take crap from anyone, yeah!

5) Is there a color that you just can't wear, you know the one that makes you looks sick, or you just can't stand? Explain the color? (Example ~ Light green, not med, or dark, but light..yuck!)

The Goblet of Fire, when Draco Malfoy is turned into a ferret!

Unfortunately no, I have previous plans that preclude any partying. I will, however, be reading that night!

9) Was there a scene that just cranked your needles? A scene that just made you mad?

Yarn to Share

Hello! This is my first post to the group. This looks to be a lot of fun. I have purchased my yarn for the Sock It. I bought New Years Eve by Seacoast to use for my socks. I still haven't decided what pattern I will use. I still have two more pairs of socks I'm trying to finish before I cast this one one.

A Summer To Remember

Besides knitting or crocheting HP-theme socks ... is anyone counting down in other ways? Having a HP movie marathon? Rereading all the books? Making a paper chain? ;)

I checked out Order of the Phoenix on book-CD, so I could hear the story again while knitting.

Wednesday, May 2, 2007

I have an idea floating around in my mind ... and bouncing off the padded walls ...

I have two full skeins of Chestnut Heather Wool-Ease - sort of Gryffindor-y looking - if Gryffindor were a chestnut tree - and some left over yarn in both scarlet & gold (or darn close). Since I've sentenced myself to only working from my stash this year - I have to get creative - so I'm thinking of making knee-high socks, with gold and scarlet cuffs and chestnut legs and feet. I'll give it a shot this weekend ... see if I like it...

Swap It ~ Changes ~ Update

The Swap It has been changed to just be open at this time for anyone who would like to join.

Also all Crocheters are welcome to join and soon there will be a questionnaire set up for both the Sock It and Swap It for just you. If you Crochet we can't have you answering knitting questions, how fun would that be?? ;c)

And Please remember, if you have any suggestions or questions for the group, please email me HERE!

Intro

1) What are your favorite Harry Potter Book Hogwarts House colors?

Gryffindor for day wear...Slytherin for a night out on the town. ;)
Both Houses consists of my favorite color combinations - and interestingly enough - I am sorted into Gryffindor about as often as I am sorted into Slytherin.

2) Are you going to knit your socks in your favorite house colors, the colors that from the house that you were "sorted" into by a website, or some mismatched (funky) Dobby socks or something else entirely and if so what??

Since I have taken a self-imposed vow to work only from my stash - your guess is as good as mine. I'll get back to you on this ...

3) Do you have a favorite character and why?

Sirius ... because I love dogs. Seriously though, it's Sirius. He has an incredible amount of love in his heart - and I do not believe he is dead.

4) Who is your favorite teacher at Hogwarts?

In a snap, Snape! I think he is one of the most mysterious and intriguing fictional characters, ever. I'm hoping he becomes a "Jean Valjean" in book seven, by discovering he has been a force for good in the world by protecting Harry all these years.

5) What was your favorite Harry Potter Book?

The Order of the Phoenix.

6) Do you have a favorite scene from one of the books?

I've always enjoyed the scene when Fred & George bust outtah Hogwarts. I look forward to seeing that played out on screen!

7) What do you think is the funniest scene in one of the books?

I can't recall all the details ... but it involves Hermione and Ron in Half-Blood Prince.

8) How about a scene that made you cry?

In Half-Blood Prince - when there's a united front to follow Harry at the end.

9) Was there a scene that just cranked your needles? A scene that just made you mad?

The death of Sirius.

10) Have you watched the movies and read the books? or just one and or the other, and if so which ones?

I believe since Chamber of Secrets, we've always been to the first midnight showing and midnight book release.

11) Have you or do you have any plans to knit anything else "themed" Harry Potter?

I'd like to crochet Hedwig.

12) Anything else you would like to tell about yourself, about the books, or about your knitting, bring it on! :c)

I'm a prolific blogger over at Stix on the Beach: Tales From The Happy Hooker. It chronicles my life knittin', crochetin' & writin' on the beach.

Thank you so much for playing hostess to this Harry Potter-Along! It's just what I was looking for. :)

The Sock It, is a sock KAL that may be joined at any time, and the "theme" of course is Harry Potter, although that is the "theme" please feel free to interpret that any way you normally would. Basically there are few rules, but loads of fun!

The Swap It, is a sock swap, you will be assigned a Pal that you can talk with, get to know and knit up one pair of socks for which you will "Swap". The Swap It has a time line in which you can join and a time line on when you need to have your Pal's socks done and sent to them.

You can pick which one you would like to join, or you can join both, the choice is yours. If your interested please check out the links for each and follow the "Get Started" links for whichever you have chosen!

During the Sock It and Swap It we will talk about socks, sock patterns, sock yarn and of course Harry Potter!

Along with all this there will be trivia, quiz's, and links to Harry Potter games you can play online. During this time "House Points" will be awarded or subtracted for how well each House answers or for high score on certain games. Totals will be added up periodically between the start dates and the final day of July 21, 2007.

So come join in on the fun and lets count down together until the very last Harry Potter book is released and we can wear our new socks!!!

If you have any questions before joining please contact me at KlondikeCafe@comcast.net and put either Sock It, Swap It or both in the subject line.

Sock It~ Rules

The Rules for the Harry Potter Sock It:

1) Try and stay on topic, which means such topics as ~ Socks, Sock Patterns, Sock Yarn, Sock Yarn Colors, Harry Potter (anything), with an occasional topic thrown in if your knitting anything else "themed" Harry Potter.

2) If you share a pattern it must either be free or designed by you, or you need permission from the original author, please no copyright infringements.

3) Please check in at least once a week, this rule however is not set in gold, we all get busy with life sometimes, but seriously, please try and check in, even if its to say, "hey, I haven't knit anything and it sucks."... We sock knitters tend to get attached to our "sock friends" and we are subject to worry excessively about you if you disappear which may also throw off our gauge and we all know what that can do! Yikes!

4) You can either pick your favorite website and be "sorted" into your Hogwarts house, or you can pick your house but only if you are knitting socks in the house colors from the house you have chosen.

5) If you post please put your name (user name/blog name/nickname if your more comfortable) in your post so we know who you are, and please feel free to add a link to your blog or online photo album in your posts so we can read it while we knit, we like blog and photo sharing!

6) Please read all rules carefully!!! I cannot stress this enough as the rules for the Sock It will be a bit different than the rules for the Swap It.

Sock It~ Welcome

Welcome to the Harry Potter Sock It KAL! The Left side of Harry Potter Book 7 Sock It or Swap It is where members can join and knit a pair (or more) of socks together while awaiting book 7 to be released. Several different free sock patterns will be listed and more may be added over the next few months (you know..to satisfy those "fast" Knitters. ). Some patterns may be wacky and fun so you can wear them to any Harry Potter parties that might be in your area on the night of the "big" release. Pull up a chair, pick a pattern, share your thoughts on the anticipation, on re-reading the books, watching the movies over, or on your current sock pattern!

**Please be aware that if you have not watched the movies or read all the books that there might be spoilers listed in the blog.**
